Curious on what we have developed?

01.

Professional Development

Youth are the future leaders of our next generation. We at SLYO are committed to investing in young people and developing their skills, as education and development are key to reducing unemployment, higher income and an improved standard of living. Our goal is to allow them to achieve their full productive potential and we believe that professional development is essential in creating a confident and resilient young adult.

Conferences

SLYO hosts annual leadership conferences for its members. The conferences serve as an opportunity for the youth to meet and network with others in their communities both professionally and personally. The conferences feature panels, workshops, keynote speakers and other leaders.

Leadership Mentoring Program

SLYO is able to pair you up with a mentor from any chapter across the globe through our Leadership Mentoring Program. We aim to inspire, and empower the future of these young leaders, who were ‘Born to Lead’

Success with SLYO

SLYO hosts a series of virtual events that feature young professionals from various sectors and fields that advise and enable youth to learn, ask questions, and engage with people who have been in their shoes.

Practical Knowledge

SLYO gives the opportunity for youth to practice what they have learned and to apply their skills to survive in today’s competitive world. They utilize and apply knowledge gained by collaborating in project-based learning. SLYO’s projects are designed in such a way so that members are able to learn all aspects of project planning and launching a successful event or fundraiser from beginning to end. In doing so, our youth are able to head out into the world with a level of experience that puts them ahead of others.

02.

Financial Literacy

Youth are the future leaders of our next generation. We at SLYO are committed to investing in young people and developing their skills, as education and development are key to reducing unemployment, higher income and an improved standard of living. Our goal is to allow them to achieve their full productive potential and we believe that professional development is essential in creating a confident and resilient young adult.

“Money Talk”

By partnering with financial institutions, SLYO is able to educate our youth through financial literacy programs, and resources. For anyone interested, we are able to hand-out resource packets that include reading material, templates, and other tools young people can use to educate themselves on various financial literacy topics. The topics covered include: budgeting and saving, college financial aid packages, building and maintaining good credit, debts and loans, and investing.

Virtual Financial Events and Conference

SLYO hosts periodic virtual events and panels to openly discuss financial literacy and issues our young people will come across when dealing with their finances. In addition, during our annual leadership conference, we will dedicate one of the sessions being a panel of experts from the field to discuss and hold Q&A sessions with our youth regarding the topic of personal finance.

Fundraising for Projects

Not only do our fundraising projects give our youth an opportunity to learn about values such as: hard work, gratitude, and generosity, it also teaches them valuable lessons on finance. Setting a target goal for fundraising, managing the ins-and-outs of the project, and ensuring that all funds are appropriately budgeted and allocated puts our youth ahead of the game on what they will experience in their personal and professional future endeavours.

Rise to Lead

“Rise to Lead” is a hands-on project-based learning curriculum for middle school students. The program provides USA/UK/Canadian students and teachers to connect and collaborate with students and teachers from Sri Lanka. It enables the youth from both countries to benefit through global connections and learn about different cultures around the world. It is a highly effective and proven method for our youth to learn leadership skills that benefit them in the classroom as well as in their personal lives.

International mindedness is also becoming more important for college preparation and career-readiness.
Global connections help students learn about different social norms and cultural values around the world, developing social skills that allow them to adapt to different environments.
Through global connections and project based learning, social & emotional learning experiences are more meaningful and relevant to youth today.

Programs

Please contact us if you or your school is interested in partnering in one or both of the below Rise to Lead Programs.

Middle School Library Adoption

the purpose of this program is two-fold:

To educate middle school students in the US about Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan culture, and introduce relationships with kids in another part of the world.

Raise funds that will be used to build a library in rural and underserved villages in Sri Lanka and manage the project from beginning to end.

SLYO for SDGs

Our Contribution to the Agenda 2030

At the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Summit on September 25, 2015, world leaders adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which includes a set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and tackle climate change by 2030. By today, more and more young people, youth led initiatives and coperates have pledged their support for the global movement. SLYO, is happy to contribute to this Global Agenda leaving no one behind!

Over the years we have conducted and completed a large number of educational programs, environmental programs, and community welfare projects. Each of these activities have contributed to the UN’s 2030 Agenda, and following are the goals which our organization advocates for through our activities of social impact! Through our platform and programs you will be able to learn more about SDGs and be on your way to contributing to making the world a better place in no time.
